BC Deals with Gold for the Week of September 22nd, 2020

I would like to say I played plenty of games last week, that was certainly not the case.  I am not sure if it was bad luck or I was stuck in a rut but every time I tried to boot up Tell Me Why to finish off the 2nd episode, it needed a damn update of some sort.  And then yesterday I thought I could set aside some time finally and boom, Xbox update.  I made a tiny bit of progress on Redeemer but honestly it’s not worth going into detail for either.  I did finish a book I had been reading though, so I guess that’s the tradeoff, lol.

We do have a sale this week which does have plenty of Devil May Cry as well as Resident Evil, except one problem.  Neither of those are backwards compatible.  I take it back, there is that one RE title that is BC, but that’s honestly it.  This is a whole list of games (with a few exceptions) that for the most part are requiring you to have your Xbox 360 up and running which is harder these days.  Mine is okay last time I checked, but I also had to buy it used (it’s my second one after my first one was able to be repaired 3 times before it hit the dust).  So I’m guessing it’s running on borrowed time.   Used consoles aren’t what they used to be.  Have a great week and enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of September 15th, 2020

Well, I plowed through Redeemer: Enhanced Edition as far as the story mode goes.  It had some difficult spots but once you upgrade your character sufficiently it becomes a lot easier.  I now stand at 33 of 40 achievements, 100% will mostly depend on whether I can beat the game at the highest difficulty (I played the first time on normal).

I’m also working through Tell Me Why’s second episode.  Taking a sneak peak at the third episode, it does look like I will have to play the game a second time though I figure after going through it the first time I can trim down my time significantly (since I’m doing a ton of extra exploring the first time around).  I still am enjoying the game as I do most point and clicks even if it’s trying to do be a bit political and stereotypical in how it treats a lot of the supporting characters.

There is a fair bit of sales this week but as usual, nothing mind blowing.  A whole heck of a lot of Call of Duty but as usual the prices aren’t where most people want since the discs are far cheaper.  Destroy All Humans is a fantastic game but is getting a Xbox One remaster but it is $4 so it’s still a good deal.  I hope everybody has a good week, this one hasn’t started off at all good for me but here is hoping that it picks up the pace.  Enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of September 8th, 2020

I did finish the first episode of Tell Me Why over the past week and I did enjoy it enough to continue with the other episodes as they become available.    It has a excellent story and the gameplay isn’t difficult but yet intriguing enough to keep me playing.  It’s also a gorgeous game with some of the best graphics I’ve seen.  Hopefully I get started with the 2nd episode soon enough.

I’ve also started another game called Redeemer: Enhanced Edition which is basically a beat em up with a bucket full of blood and a lot of hard hitting action.  It was originally a Windows game and ported over about a year ago to the various console systems.  I’m enjoying it so far, I’m about half way through the game in a mere week.  I don’t think I’ll be finished with it this time next week but I’m well on my way to trying to completing it (I think one or two achievements might require a little more effort).

We do have some sales this week, most of it is a carry over from the previous week.  There are a few new ones, mostly centered around Battlefield games which have never been a real interest to me.  However, I know there are many out there that have different tastes so there might be something worthy of your time.  Anyway, have a great week and hope you enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of September 2nd, 2020

Sorry for not posting this yesterday, working from home is a lot rougher than I ever imagined especially when you put in roughly 55 hours a week.  Something has to be pushed to the side and unfortunately this column is sometimes the odd one out.  I finished Yoku’s Island Express last week, the last few wickerlings and scarabs weren’t so bad just time consuming.  Great game overall, had a lot of fun with it.  If a sequel came out, I would play it in a heartbeat.

I did start a new game which is actually new for once and not a game I’m calling new that might have came out a year or two ago.  That game is Tell Me Why which is the latest adventure game by Dontnod Entertainment who are of course the geniuses behind the Life is Strange Games.  So far so good, I’m really enjoying it.  If I have time, I stress if I have time, I might be inclined to do a review for this and then update the review as the episodes (3 total) come out.  Just something to keep me writing as the saying goes.

Anyway, we do have sales this week as usual.  Outside of the fact that Xbox Live Sales Guy can’t spell Assassin this week (I’ve corrected it below), it’s a fairly normal week.  Some good stuff, most of which we have seen a million times before.  Nothing really for me in that list.  However, please enjoy and have a great week.

Games with Gold for Month of September 2020

Looks like the new Games with Gold were announced yesterday.   I will say that overall this is a much better month than the previous.  I tried the Division when it was in Beta and unfortunately put it down after an hour in disgust.  It never stood out to me.  I do own Unwritten Tales 2 and Armed and Dangerous in Physical form so this will be nice in the sense I don’t have to play from a disc (not that I mind, I’m still old school in that way).  But both of those are pretty good and I’m even curious about De Blob 2 when I am given the opportunity.  Enjoy.

Xbox One

  • Tom Clancy’s The Division (September 1st – September 30th)
  • The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 (September 16th – October 15th)

Xbox 360

  • de Blob2  (September 1st – September 15th)
  • Armed and Dangerous (XBO)  (September 16th-September 30th)

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of August 25th, 2020

I want to apologize for not posting this yesterday.  To be fair, I was more concerned about a Hurricane in my area and second, Xbox had not put up the 360 sales when I checked yesterday morning.  Thankfully, the Hurricane has shifted East enough to where it shouldn’t be an issue and the 360 sales are now up.  I also have a little more to talk about personal gaming wise.

As mentioned in the previous weeks, I had been playing Yoku’s Island Express.  I kinda hit a speed bump last week up until yesterday.  I was stuck nickel and dimeing wickerlings and scarabs and barely making a dent in end game progress.  I went even as far to put away the game (since I’m playing it from disc) and told myself I’ll touch it again in a month or so.  However, I hate giving up on a game and tried it one more time.  Much to my surprise, things started to click again, and it led to four achievements (up to 25 of 31) and all of the progress achievements (scarabs, wickerlings, wallet space, etc) are now between 70 and 80%.  Can I actually make this a 100% completion after all?  I’ll know more for sure next week.

So here are the sales for this week.  On the BC front, it’s really not much.  I’m actually interested to see the Games with Gold situation this month as last month was pretty close to a disaster when it came to games on both the Xbox One and 360.  But hopefully, the rumors of their demise isn’t quite in the cards as of yet.  Take care, have a good week and we will talk again soon.  Enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of August 18th, 2020

Yesterday, I was able to get through the story of Yoku’s Island Express.  Nothing particularly hard, it was more sticking with the game to get to its inevitable end.  I am now sitting at 21 of 31 achievements and honestly this is where the game gets harder, the road to 100% completion.  There are several mechanisms with the in-game map which does help but showing a location on a map doesn’t mean instant success.  Furthermore, there isn’t a huge community to really make sense of all the secret doors or what you have to do to get each collectible or complete the remaining quests.

In my first session late yesterday, I did find a plethora of wickerlings and treasure chests but I realized what was left and I would lie if I wasn’t a bit overwhelmed.  I’ll try to take slow and not get to the point where it stops being fun.

Now, late last week we did have the launch of the Ultimate Game Sale which is always a nice summer event to get some games that you might have missed or perhaps a deeper discount to save your wallet some grief.  Though it does not look like they have learned their lesson on Call of Duty titles at all.  I think this is the first time in a while I’ve seen Rocket Knight on sale though so that’s probably worth the $3.  Most of these are backwards compatible so it makes this list just a little bit better in hopes of finding something to satisfy your palette.  But alas, it looks like I’m going back to Yoku, at least for this week as I get a little that pinball a little bit closer to total completion.  Enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of August 11th, 2020

Well, I tried to find time to go back to Broken Sword 5, but alas it never worked out like I hoped.  I am still eager to get back to the game and start the second episode.  In the meantime, I did have an amazing run with my Defect on Ascension 3 in Slay the Spire where I thought I was going to die about half a dozen times only to pull my head out and somehow keep going.

I also started a new game called Yoku’s Island Express.  It’s on Game Pass currently (but set to be removed within a week or so but I do have the physical disc as well), and I’m liking the pinball/metroidvania feel a lot.  Only problem is it’s a huge map and the other thing is the Sootlings that you must attach to the plants to spin around are incredibly hard to time correctly.  I hope it’s not my undoing because I would like to at least beat the game (not sure about 100% everything though).

Feel free to take a look at the games on sale this week.  Reminder, Panzer Elite is not available in the US, either you need to be in the UK or know your way around such things.  One can also purchase the disc, but good look in finding a copy for a reasonable price (probably set you back between 40 and 50 bucks).

Last week I did make a purchase on the 360 sales in the form of the DLC Shivering Isles for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.  I do also have disc copies but for a game as immense as this, it might be best to have it on demand so to speak, especially when I spent only $5 for the DLC.  Only important DLC I don’t believe I have for Oblivion is Knights of Nine.  There are several what looks like cosmetic DLCs such as a Wizard’s Tower or a Thieves’ Den which I didn’t notice since I’ve dealt with the disc copy all this time.  If anybody is aware if any of these are actually worth a darn please leave a comment.  They are only a couple of bucks and if there is one that stands above the rest I’m more than willing to purchase 1 or 2 of them.  Well have a great week, hopefully you find a game or two to spend your time with.  Enjoy.

BC Deals with Gold for the Week of August 4th, 2020

After finishing off Dear Esther’s commentary mode (and thus the game), I did start another game this past week in Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse.  It is a point and click adventure with some puzzle solving and I was able to get through the entire first episode.  There is another episode which looks shorter from what I can tell but the first did take about 4 hours to pound through.  So far, I have enjoyed the story very much and it’s pretty well made to be honest.  I just need to find time to play it because its best served in good size chunks.  I should be done with it in a couple of weeks I figure.  Yes, I am also still playing Slay the Spire.  Got two more achievements too(29/46).  The game never ends I swear.

Well, if you played Metro in the last generation, this might just be your week for sales.  A little depressing that Costume Quest is on sale this week but it’s DLC is not…again.  The game is only $2.99 but it’s DLC is still at $4.99.  Some good Fallout sales too (I don’t think the DLC has been that low before) if you don’t own the Deluxe/Game of the Year Editions.  It’s not a bad week honestly, hope you have a good one.  Enjoy.

Games with Gold for Month of August 2020

Looks like the new Games with Gold were announced this morning.    I hate to say it but these are the very definition of ooooogly.  Two Xbox Original games and two Xbox One games I could care less about.  Of course, I will grab the two XBO games but this is kind of depressing.  Well, enjoy them nevertheless.

Xbox One

  • Portal Knights (August 1st – August 31st)
  • Override: Mech City Brawl (August 16th – September 15th)

Xbox 360

  • MX Unleashed (XBO)  (August 1st – August 15th)
  • Red Faction II (XBO)  (August 16th-August 31st)
