10/16 Update on Backwards Compatibility Voting

Welcome to the 13th iteration of Backwards Compatibility Voting.  It’s monthly voting time and I did get my copies of Wasteland 2: Director’s Cut and Back to the Future for the Xbox One from Gamestop.  Unfortunately, I didn’t even unwrap them yet.  I spent my time either messing with Project Spark or playing NCAA Football 14.  Pick up and play, I swear that’s my magical phrase when you have a baby to look after.  But we have much to talk about, and you didn’t click on this column to get daddy feelings of joy notes.

So, we decided to go top 18 this week, and the natural fall came at 1.30% which is higher than the 1.20 we had last week.  Better numbers, yeah!  Deadpool despite finishing first every single week continues to fall % wise.  Outrun was in spitting distance this week of eclipsing ole Merc with a Mouth.  But I’m going to laugh if the first thing to move past Deadpool is one of the lesser titles like Sherlock Holmes, Leisure Suit Larry or Alex Kidd.

Alex Kidd, you heard that one right.  #6 on our weekly countdown this week.  Actually this week, there were three Sega Vintage titles in the top 18.  Stuck in there were the two Sherlock Holmes titles (which is not a rare occurrence anymore), Leisure Suit Larry and Rumble Roses XX.  Crysis 3 actually fell this week to #11 which is not unexpected since we are enough past the GWG appearance.

Also, in an odd place, Rayman Origins shows up at #15.  That Rayman Legends game keeps staring at me on my Xbox One queue (previous GWG title).  Oh by the way, I deleted my copy of Fable Legends Beta.  Just couldn’t bring myself to play it again.  I’ll wait for the Fable games to go BC (which is a lock at this point)…any of those games is leaps and bounds better than Legends.  Oh…public service announcement, Walking Dead Season 1 (Telltale) is free on Xbox One or 360 for the next two weeks (more GWG).

Anyway, let’s move on to the monthly top 20.

Told you that the Sherlock Holmes games are no longer abnormalities.  #5 and #6.  Crazy, and Crysis 3 gets a very strong #4 finish, almost beating out NCAA Football.  Crysis 2 also shows up a little further down the countdown too.  (For those curious, the original Crysis was #41)  Alex Kidd also shows up here as the only Sega Vintage title which is curious to say the least.  I played some Alex Kidd in my Sega Master days and it was very cute but very forgettable.  I think like others I’m voting purely for nostalgia.

Both Dragon Age games are showing up here as well as the Divinity game which is probably a result of the new Divinity game that’s coming out for XB1 soon. My favorite dark horse is also here, Gun right next to good ole Skyrim at #19 and #20.  Which leads to an interesting thought…Skyrim, Oblivion, I have not heard a lick from the Elder Scroll camp on whether they will be putting either of these titles in BC.  They both have fantastic and consistent vote totals.  I mean, I have the GOTY packages for both titles..heck, I even have Morrowind from the original Xbox and ALL the guides.  So, that needs to come sooner than later.

Anyway, I did want to throw out one more public service announcement this week before I go.  Don’t buy used games at Best Buy….well unless you want a crummy old disc and nothing else.  I thought I would snag Sleeping Dogs Remastered  for Xbox One for $9.99.  I did pickup at store (probably also a mistake on my part)…and they bring out only the disc.  I just shook my head and cancelled right there.  At that point, what’s the difference between that and a digital copy?  At least the digital copy is not an eyesore on my shelf.  But that’s all I got, tune in next week to see somebody unseats ole Deadpool.  It’s coming, it’s a matter of time.
