9/11 Update on Backwards Compatibility Voting

Welcome to the 8th iteration of Backwards Compatibility Voting.  It’s monthly voting time and we here are SUPER excited about it.  Okay not really.  But despite the low voting, there were certainly some interesting trends we saw this week.  Let’s go inside and take a look.

First the Weekly Top 15 and Bottom 5.  There were the usual three suspects we have been over time and time again and it probably won’t change anytime soon.  Sad part is Outrun won’t make BC at all due to the game being pulled from the marketplace, Deadpool is being re-released and I believe (though not confirmed) NCAA Football 14 will show up as an EA Access title.  That’s my hunch anyway.

More important is the rest of the list.  Tales from The Borderlands gets a big jump and brings up an interesting question.  The series is currently ongoing and all of the episodes are not out yet.  A lot of people I would safely assume probably bought the series starting on the 360 and then are coming over to the Xbox One this Christmas season.  Backwards compatibility starts officially in November and I’m sure a lot of people would like to finish up their season pass on Xbox One thru BC.  Telltale would win over a lot of fans if they did BC on this title because it is ongoing.  I think its a good idea.

People are seriously gearing up for Crysis 3 when it hits Games on Gold next week.  I mean, I even plan on getting into the multiplayer and getting my ass handed to me.  What’s more is that all 3 of the Crysis titles (which I happen to own digitally) are on the top 15 list.  This bodes well for all of them to pass over into BC, unless EA just throws them into EA Access.  I dunno, I think that a Crysis 4 is inevitable, and a great way to cross promote is get your old titles into a new system with little effort.

The other interesting trend here has to be the vast array of Sega titles.  All of the vintage collections I voted for are among the top 15.  Furthermore, Sonic’s Genesis collection rode a similar wave of votes.  It might seem like a small jump, but it’s worth noting.  I still hold out for a small ray of hope that the Genesis collection makes the jump to the Xbox One without having a re-release with 5 more games.  It was a perfect collection, and honestly I would not change a thing.

However, the bottom five is more of the same.  Guardian Heroes didn’t get helped by the Sega uprising at all and the Magna Carta vote is just disturbing.  (the 666 votes isn’t kind either)  Outpost Kaloki keeps showing in the bottom 5 and its sad because the game is a lot of fun, but NOBODY has heard of it.  Moving on to the top 20 I guess.

The monthly top 20 was also quite the bit of interesting statistical data.  We have the usual three continuing to rack up more and more percentage every week.  All Pro Football rear its head as it is probably still the best football game that was ever released on Xbox 360.  Well it was.  Then there are my two personal black horse candidates, Gun and Silent Hill Homecoming.  Week after week they tend to show up near the bottom of the top 15…and they secure a 5th and 6th in the monthly top 20.

Then we have a few series that made the mix with the two Overlord games (who have always been consistently in the list) and Crysis 2/3 (which I greatly mentioned above).  The two Wolfenstein games not made by their current copyright holder are also here which proves the old adage that if somebody is going to vote for 1 title, it will vote for the same title in the series.  Regardless if it makes sense or not.

But the real happy surprise here is the Alice game at #16.  I know most of you had not seen it ever in the top 15 (maybe once).  But it gets votes consistently every week and appears in the top 20-25 typically. Well that paid off here, and I really think it will be a BC title eventually.  The only question is if the DLC which is the first Alice game remastered also makes the jump.  I would think it would, but we shall see.

Anyway, that’s our list.  I will make one note….I probably will stop collecting votes for Borderlands after this week.  The Xbox site has marked it officially as In-Progress and one would think that this would slow down the voting considerably.  This week it did still get 277 votes though.  It’s just silly to keep collecting data for a game that’s already won so to speak.  If you have an opinion on that, feel free to leave it below, take care.
